Where horses and the macabre come together, you will find Cullen. Hexed Hooves is the shop, artist identity, and studio of Cullen Malkemus.

Cullen has been in the model horse community since he was a young child, but started customizing around the age of 12, being driven by seeing the expressive, lifelike, and detailed sculpts by artists like Eberl and Minkiewicz. He has been a fan of horror as a genre since he was a toddler, with his favorite movie being Jeepers Creepers when he was 6.

This love for horror and horses would inevitably combine in 2014 when he sculpted his first drastic custom, turning a Breyer Family Arabian Stallion into a grotesque zombie struggling to hold its own weight. He was inspired by seeing halloween customs, but frustrated by the lack of realistic anatomy, and decided to have a go at it himself.

After selling that model and seeing how well it did in Live shows (taking home Champion repeatedly,) he decided he would capture his vision of The Perfect Zombie better in an original sculpt, and sculpted his first original sculpt in 2016, naming the horse "Lazarus." The zombie gained a lot of attention with a small cult following even today. The outpouring of love for the scrungly little zombie was when he knew he found not only his niche, but also his passion.

Now, he specializes in the largely unexplored macabre and horror concepts of what can be made into model horses, allowing imagination and curiosity to guide him to new and interesting creations.

Simply put: there is no one better at making grisly models that are sure to turn heads and place well in both live and photo shows!
